Beware Fake Texts & Emails

Thank you to congregants warning us of more fake cell phone text messages claiming to come from Rev. Tricia. Hackers target UU ministers and are trickier in that they don’t immediately ask for a gift until you respond and then you see where it is going, which is understandably upsetting. We know better than to respond to requests for “gifts” but don’t like being tricked into responding to learn this nor having our cell phone privacy invaded. Some have asked you to share our directory, claiming be be a board member. Be suspicious and ignore it or tell them to call the office if you don’t have a way to discern if the email is accurate. Please use caution when opening/reading/responding to both emails and texts to keep yourself safe. Our ministers will never ask you for financial gifts and our board members will never ask you to share our directory. We encourage you to report scams to the VT Attorney General: 1-800-649-2424 | ago.cap@vermont.gov
