Music & Dancing Abounds at CVUUS!

Music continues to hum at CVUUS!

As always, our choir is thriving. Be sure to come to our annual choir-led service on Sunday June 16.

Our beloved music director Ronnie Romano will be leaving CVUUS at the end of June but will remain with us in Middlebury. Read his letter to us here: Music Director Announcement 5.5.24

Vespers in April featured a candlelight service of contemplative Taize prayer with singers from our CVUUS choir and all over town, led by Rev. Christina and Ronnie Romano. We’ll pause until Fall (so no vespers for busy May).

Come to our Contra Dance in the Sanctuary on Friday, May 10 at 7pm.  Like before, we’ll do traditional and new dances in any of several formations — circle dances, contra dances, longways sets (like a Virginia Reel), and squares.  All dances will be taught before they are danced, and will be called during the dancing.  Richard Hopkins will be calling. Live music will be provided by a group of players associated with CVUUS in various ways, led by Kai Fukuda and Carol Harden. Admission is free but we will have a jar for contributions. No previous experience is necessary.  Come by yourself, with a friend, or with a group.  All dances will be called in a gender-free fashion.  Most involve having a partner for that dance.  Some dances have identical roles for the person on the left and the one on the right; for others we will use the terms Larks (on the left) and Robins (on the right).  Anyone can ask anyone to dance.

Later this month we’ll continue our new Noontime Concert Series in the Sanctuary. Come Thursdays May 23 (a bit later at 1 pm) and May 30 at noon. There will be varied styles and performers. Come take your lunch break by enjoying some live music!

Middlebury College Community Chorus continues to rehearse at CVUUS on Wed and Sunday nights, winding down this month. Come to our Faure Requiem spring concert on Mothers’ Day May 12 at 5 pm at Middlebury College’s Center for the Arts.

Opera Company of Middlebury Meet the Singers (of their adult spring opera) will be with us Sat. May 18 at 5 pm. Their orchestra will rehearse with us again later this month.

We continue to be a home for community music making of all kinds, with World Music Day returning Thurs June 20 (4-7). Reach out if you are interested in hosting your community arts-focused event with us.
