Courage Is a Decision

In our Sanctuary (no Zoom). Our UU faith calls us to fight injustice. We found bravery together. There was LOTS of singing!  We sang contemporary songs from MaMuse, Emma’s Revolution, and Brandi Carlisle, among others (lyrics below).  The structure was different. We appreciate the 60 who came to try out a somewhat different way to do worship led by Poppy Rees, Dir. of Religious Exploration with Ronnie Romano, Music Dir.  We shared our plate with Open Door Clinic. This was followed by a brief social hour and then Ana Guigui (voice) and Anibal Cruz (piano) performed a sixty-minute concert of songs in Spanish starting at ~11:30 am. The set included Argentinean art song, boleros, rumbas, pop/contemporary, and original songs, all arranged for voice and piano.

Here’s a video of the service:

Music Lyrics

THIS JOY

This joy that I have, the world didn’t give it to me

This joy that I have, the world didn’t give it to me

This joy that I have, the world didn’t give it to me

The world didn’t give it, the world can’t take it away

This strength that I have, the world didn’t give it to me

This strength that I have, the world didn’t give it to me

This strength that I have, the world didn’t give it to me

The world didn’t give it, the world can’t take it away

This love that I have, the world didn’t give it to me

This love that I have, the world didn’t give it to me

This love that I have, the world didn’t give it to me

The world didn’t give it, the world can’t take it away

This pride that I have, the world didn’t give it to me

This pride that I have, the world didn’t give it to me

This pride that I have, the world didn’t give it to me

The world didn’t give it, the world can’t take it away

This peace that I have, the world didn’t give it to me

This peace that I have, the world didn’t give it to me

This peace that I have, the world didn’t give it to me

The world didn’t give it, the world can’t take it away

This joy that I have, the world didn’t give it to me

This joy that I have, the world didn’t give it to me

This joy that I have, the world didn’t give it to me

The world didn’t give it, the world can’t take it away

The world didn’t give it, the world can’t take it away

The world didn’t give it, the world can’t take it away

The world didn’t give it…the world can’t take it away

JUST AS LONG AS I HAVE BREATH

Just as long as I have breath

I must answer, “Yes,” to life

though with pain I made my way

still with hope I meet each day

If they ask what I did well

tell them I said, “Yes,” to life

Just as long as vision lasts

I must answer, “Yes,” to truth

in my dream and in my dark

always that elusive spark

If they ask what I did well

tell them I said, “Yes,” to truth

Just as long as my heart beats

I must answer, “Yes,” to love

disappointment pierced me through

still I kept on loving you

If they ask what I did best

tell them I said, “Yes,” to love

I WILL STAND

In the warmth of your presence, I am safe at home

I will stand, I will stand

In the deepest conflict, I am not alone

I will stand, I will stand

I will stand, I will stand

With this spark in my hand

I will stand in the circle with the circle in me

I will stand, I will stand

I will stand in myself when I’m not feeling strong

I will stand, I will stand

I will tear down the walls and sing a freedom song

I will stand, I will stand

I will stand, I will stand

With this spark in my hand

I will stand in the circle with the circle in me

I will stand, I will stand

I will gather the courage I have found in me

I will stand, I will stand

I will honor the vision of who I will be

I will stand, I will stand

I will stand, I will stand

With this spark in my hand

I will stand in the circle with the circle in me

I will stand, I will stand

I will stand, I will stand

WE SHALL BE KNOWN

We shall be known by the company we keep

By the ones who circle round to tend these fires

We shall be known by the ones who sow and reap

The seeds of change, alive from deep within the earth

It is time now, it is time now that we thrive

It is time we lead ourselves into the well

It is time now, and what a time to be alive

In this Great Turning we shall learn to lead in love

In this Great Turning we shall learn to lead in love

We shall be known by the company we keep

By the ones who circle round to tend these fires

We shall be known by the ones who sow and reap

The seeds of change, alive from deep within the earth

It is time now, it is time now that we thrive

It is time we lead ourselves into the well

It is time now, and what a time to be alive

In this Great Turning we shall learn to lead in love

In this Great Turning we shall learn to lead in love

THERE IS A LOVE HOLDING US

There is a love holding us

There is a love holding all that we do

There is a love holding all

We rest in this love

SANCTUARY

Make us aware we are a sanctuary

Each made holy, loved right through

with thanksgiving, we are a living

sanctuary a-new

Make us aware we are a sanctuary

Each made holy, loved right through

with thanksgiving, we are a living

sanctuary a-new
