Practicing Democracy

We hope you’ll find a way to be engaged in getting out and protecting the vote and democracy this fall. Here are been some ways.

3 Flipping Things CANCELLED for Oct 16

October finds ALL postcards to get out and protect voting in critical states already distributed to volunteers poised to finish them and drop them in the mail by Oct 24 and many others in swing states canvassing voters so the OCT 16 postcard writing session at CVUUS on Wed Oct 16 at 7:30 pm hosted by 3 Flipping Things has been cancelled.  Contact Mike Roy for more at roymichaeldonald@gmail.com or see Jean Terwilliger or Lise Anderson. Many CVUUS congregants have been canvassing this fall, including Lise and Abi Sessions in PA, Kathryn Schloff in MI, Kate Gridley and John Barstow in AZ. If anyone wants to canvas for a candidate in Rensselaer County, NY on Sat October 26 in the NY19th District, ask Lise Anderson how.  Let us know if and where you have been canvassing!

Practicing Democracy: Women in Public Office

Over 40 people came to learn about the many ways you could make a difference Sunday September 29, 4:30 – 6 pm in CVUUS’ Fellowship Hall (lower level) at a free community event open to people of all political persuasions.

There are many ways we can meet our civic responsibilities. We were inspired by Gov Howard Dean, Esther Charlestin, Co-chair of the VT Commission on Women, and Addie Lentzner, a totally engaged College student. After their presentations, attendees had a chance to interact with them one-on-one, and learn directly from local experts about ways to engage voters and amplify our own voices. Have you ever wondered about the efficacy of: Writing postcards? Sending letters? Holding house parties? Registering new voters? Calling people on the phone? Running for local offices? Signing up with a national organization? Whether you consider yourself an Independent, Republican, Democrat, Progressive, or person ambivalent about politics. There were opportunities for you to share your ideas with others and learn from them. The event was sponsored by the Early Care and Learning Partnership, a non-partisan, nonprofit organization whose goal is to promote the well-being of all young children and their families.
