Little Free Library!
October 9, 2025
Susie Patterson has generously donated a lovely, three-shelf “little free library.” With the Council of Ministries’ approval, the Facilities Team will soon install it near the parking turnout and roadside bench. Thank you heartily, Susie and Facilities Team! For this project, we welcome the congregation’s donations of high UU-interest books and books that represent our values, including books for children and youth. Our free book nook will operate on the principle of “donate one, take one” but, if you’re unable to donate a book you (and all people in the wider community!) are still most welcome to take one. Thanks for your help with this project and don’t forget CVUUS’s even more important Community Cupboard on Duane Court, near the bike rack. It needs your active support, including regular food donations.
Banned Books Week
October 9, 2025 (annually in early October)
Banned Books Week is this week, sponsored by the American Library Association’s Office for Intellectual Freedom and the Banned Books Week Coalition. Try searching our CVUUS library catalog to see what banned or challenged books we might have. Use the keyword “banned.” Then note the tag “Banned or challenged.” A challenged book is one whose presence in a library or classroom has been formally questioned by an individual or group intent on restricting access to it. A banned book is one that a governing body or supervising individual has physically removed from a library or classroom, making it unavailable others. For more about anti-democratic book banning and censorship, see Banned Books Week and Intellectual Freedom Resources from the American Library Association, as well as the ALA’s Office for Intellectual Freedom, which monitors censorship attempts nationwide. If you need help locating a book in our CVUUS library or have one to recommend, contact Lise Anderson, Susie Patterson, or Artley Wolfson!
Library of Things
September 14, 2025
We need lots more “things” for our CVUUS Library of Things. Also, if you’ve offered “things” in the past, contact Kathryn Schloff, Michele Lowy, or Artley Woflson, via Breeze, for any changes in availability of those things. For more information, see Library of Things.
