Grade 5-6: Neighboring Faiths/ sUUper PLAYS 2 (plus OWL 5-6)
sUUper PLAYS 2
Abi Sessions, Jess Rouse (Asst: Chris Hammond)
Mini-plays (4 minute average) about Unitarian Universalist holidays and special days. Some funny, some serious, all meaningful. Plays will be done in many different ways: performed in Worship services, performed for other kids in RE, and done for their own group, as an exploration tool.
OWL (runs alternate years)
OWL will focus on Grades 5-6 this year and meet for 11 Sundays, every other week or so, from 10-12:30 starting in Jan 2019 and running through April/May.
Our Whole Lives (OWL) is a comprehensive sexuality education curriculum. It values:
- Self Worth
- Sexual Health
- Justice and Inclusivity
OWL models and teaches caring, compassion, respect, and justice. It helps adolescents address their attitudes, values, and feelings about themselves, their sexuality, and others’ sexuality. Participants are guided by trained facilitators through an engaging curriculum that addresses topics most important to young adolescents, including those typically excluded from sexuality education and health classes. Some topics: gender identity, body image, puberty, sexual orientation, healthy relationships, social media, and bullying.
NEIGHBORING FAITHS (runs alternate years)
Neighboring Faiths is a world religions program which actively explores many of the world’s other faith traditions, typically spending one Sunday exploring a particular faith tradition before visiting a local faith community the next weekend, to experience services and rituals first-hand. Discussions, activities, videos, music and more.
We expect to visit both Catholic and Pentecostal churches, a Jewish synagogue, an Islamic mosque, a Buddhist center, and a Quaker meetinghouse. Hinduism and earth-centered faiths will also be introduced. Some field trips will not be on Sunday mornings.
